Prime Minister K P Oli Thursday inaugurated the 7th Nepal International Trade Fair at the Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall in Kathmandu.
The expo is being organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) with the support of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC), Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal are co-organizers of the event.
“I believe that this fair will contribute to promote the country’s internal trade,” Oli said, addressing the inaugural ceremony. “The international expo should also promote Nepali products at the international level, and also draw the attention of foreign investors toward Nepal which holds immense investment potential.” The prime minister also said the government would work with the private sector while preparing plans to achieve economic prosperity.
Minister for Finance Yuba Raj Khatiwada and the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Matrika Prasad Yadav were also present at the function.
“The government has no plans to open industries. It will only encourage and promote the private sector,” said Khatiwada. “I extend my best wishes to the event and I am hopeful that it will facilitate extensive discussions on attracting investments and establishing trade relations.”
Minister Yadav said that the government was ready to assure the safety of foreign investments in the country. Speaking at the program, FNCCI President Bhawani Rana reminded one and all that the agenda of economic prosperity was started by the federation. Rana further added that the fair is an important hub for promotion of Nepali products in the international market.
The expo has a total of 300 stalls. Products related to handicraft, tourism, information and communication technology, agricultural, energy, construction, education, health, and automobiles sectors, among others, have been showcased at the expo.
Along with Nepal, the expo has exhibitors from countries like Bangladesh, China, India and Pakistan, among others.
The event will primarily promote Nepali handicraft products as well as export commodities mentioned in the Nepal Trade Integration Strategy (NTIS) 2016. The expo ends on Monday.
